Postural Reconstruction® is a physiotherapy approach used to alleviate pain, improve dysfunction and reduce postural distortion by rebalancing muscular tone.

Our muscles constantly receive signals from the brain, even when our bodies are at rest, which maintains a certain level of muscular tension or tone.

In regular daily life and as a response to traumas, abnormal messages from the brain cause certain muscle groups to become more excitable. As a consequence of this unbalanced muscle tone, abnormal mechanical constraints lead to the development of deformations of the spine and limbs.

Our physiotherapist, Diane Patterson will observe these deformations and relate them to the accumulated tensions in the body. The therapeutic work involves rebalancing muscle tone in relation to the pain and postural distortions of each individual patient.

Postural Reconstruction® seeks to release excessive muscle tone in the body which is the source of postural distortion, thus improving alignment and relieving musculoskeletal complaints.

The physiotherapist will perform a postural assessment specific to Postural Reconstruction®. The evaluation enables the development of a therapeutic strategy as a function of the muscular tensions and postural distortions observed.

Treatment consists of individual, sixty-minute sessions. The client executes specific breathing and performs precise manoeuvers designed to release the excessive muscular tone. Initially treatments are scheduled weekly.

As symptoms improve, the sessions may be reduced to biweekly or monthly. As the condition further stabilizes, maintenance treatments may be provided according to the patient's individual needs. In general, an initial series of twelve treatments is necessary to obtain lasting results.

The goal of treatment is to rebalance muscle tonicity, thereby restoring the body's ideal form, decreasing pain and optimizing function. The client's complete compliance and active participation are essential to each therapeutic session.
